- Paul Pavnica, a Computer Systems Analyst, developed the original version of
- EasyChart in 1984. In his work experiences, he found a need for documenting
- systems, and performing simple graphic activities on a microcomputer. He
- developed EasyChart on his own time to satisfy these needs.
-
- Larry Iskow, a Supervisory Computer Systems Analyst, worked on several large
- data processing projects during the last few years. Mr. Iskow saw the
- usefulness of the EasyChart software and offered to help market the software by
- documenting the system, developing marketing strategies, and setting up
- marketing channels. He has also participated in the design of the product.

- 5 Introduction
-
- 5.1 Description
-
- 5.1.1 What is EasyChart?
-
- 5.1.1.1 Functional Description
-
- EasyChart makes it easy for you to create complex system flow and hierarchical
- charts. The software simplifies the task of creating symbols such as decision
- boxes, process boxes, listing boxes, and file boxes. You just move the cursor
- to where you want the box and press a key. The software works logically, and in
- most cases will feel intuitive.
-
- Unlike other charting software available on the market today, EasyChart does not
- use graphics to draw charts. Instead, EasyChart uses characters available in
- the IBM PC's extended character set. By doing this, EasyChart can create
- attractive charts, and store the chart in an ASCII text file. This is
- particularly beneficial when you want to import the chart EasyChart creates into
- another software package. It also helps you when you want to use EasyChart to
- modify an ASCII file created by another software package, such as your favorite
- word processor.
-
- Although EasyChart is a tool for drawing system flow diagrams, it has many other
- uses. For example, you can use EasyChart to:
-
- Document tasks or activities within a complex project. You can use
- EasyChart to draw simple PERT charts.
-
- Document the hierarchical structure of a company (also known as the Chain
- of Command, or Organization Chart).
-
- Document any system with sequential, concurrent, or subordinate tasks,
- events, nodes, etc.
-
- Document anything where boxes, other flowchart symbols, lines, and text are
- required to generate the chart, e.g. a map of offices within a building,
- examples of menu screens, complex database designs.
-
- Using your imagination, it is not difficult to think of other applications for
- EasyChart. Some users use EasyChart for showing the location of office
- furniture within offices; showing the wiring plan for a microcomputer network
- system, designing forms and questionnaires, or drawing boxes around text in a
- document to highlight the text.

- EasyChart-generated charts. If you refer to the section entitled "Files
- Included With the System", you will find descriptions of these sample files.

- 5.1.2 What Makes EasyChart Different From Other Charting Tools?
-
- EasyChart is unique since it doesn't rely on graphics to generate charts.
- EasyChart uses ASCII characters contained in the IBM extended character set.
- EasyChart stores the charts you create as ASCII sequential text files. This
- means you can import EasyChart files into word processing packages such as
- Sidekick(tm) or into integrated software such as Framework(tm). You can also
- use EasyChart to enhance files created by Sidekick, Framework, or other software
- packages that create ASCII text files.
-
- Charting software traditionally uses graphics imaging, essentially plotting or
- drawing the chart. While this creates an attractive chart, it also makes the
- chart difficult to use from within other software packages. You often find that
- charting software doesn't meet all of your needs, or that you want to
- incorporate charts into other documents. You may want to enhance the chart
- using software with features not contained in graphics software. Doing this is
- difficult with charts plotted or drawn rather than created with ASCII
- characters.
-
- EasyChart provides powerful drawing commands and allows you to use the powerful
- and familiar features of your own word processing packages.
-
-
- 5.1.3 What Type of Equipment Do I Need to Run EasyChart?
-
- At present, EasyChart will run on IBM PC/XT/AT, PS/2 or compatible equipment,
- under DOS 2.0 or later. The system works on microcomputers equipped with IBM
- CGA, EGA, VGA, or Monochrome compatible adapters.
-
- The system should have at least 256KB of RAM available. EasyChart can print its
- charts on any printer. For best results, the printer attached should be IBM
- Graphics Printer compatible, or should at least be able to print characters
- contained in the IBM extended character set. If you have a Hewlett-Packard
- Laserjet Series printer, you should refer to the section entitled "Printing
- Charts on Hewlett-Packard Laserjet Printers".

- 5.2 Basic Concepts
-
- 5.2.1 How EasyChart Operates
-
- EasyChart is a full-screen text editor designed for creating charts, and works
- in a fashion similar to many popular word processing systems on the market
- today. You should find EasyChart easy to use, even if you have little or no
- data processing experience. On-screen help is available when you need it. You
- can create charts by moving freely about the screen and entering boxes, lines,
- and other special symbols, along with text.
-
- Charts you create can be up to 132 columns wide, and an unlimited number of
- rows.
-
-
- 5.2.2 EasyChart Menus
-
- EasyChart operates from three basic modes or menus: Input/Output Mode, Create
- Mode, and Edit Mode. The Input/Output Mode menu is the main menu from which you
- select all other EasyChart functions, including file access functions such as
- reading, writing, and printing. The Create Mode menu allows the actual creation
- and designing of the chart. Edit Mode allows for the modification of items in
- the chart.
-
- If you don't like going through menus to execute commands (in other words, you
- already have all the menu selections memorized), you can use short-cut
- commands. Short-cut commands allow you to execute any command from the three
- basic menus by pressing the function key for the command along with either Alt,
- Shift, or Ctrl.
-
- Alt Is the short-cut key to the Input/Output Mode Menu.
-
- Shift Is the short-cut key to the Create Mode Menu.
-
- Ctrl Is the short-cut key to the Edit Mode Menu.
-
- For example, in Input/Output Mode you press function key F6 to read an input
- file. You can do this from any of the three menus by holding down the Alt key
- and pressing F6.

-
- 5.2.3 Special EasyChart Keys
-
- EasyChart is function key driven; that is, you make your selections by pressing
- one of 10 function keys (F1..F10) on an IBM PC/XT/AT or compatible keyboard.
- You will find these keys on the left side of a standard IBM keyboard. On a
- Keytronics KB-5151 or Compaq DeskPro 286 keyboard, you find the function keys
- across the upper part of the keyboard. Every EasyChart screen provides you with
- a complete list of all function keys available for commands, and provides
- on-screen help.
-
- You can move around EasyChart's workspace by using the cursor keys. Most IBM PC
- and compatible users are familiar with the term "cursor keys". This refers to
- keys that change the position of the cursor on the screen. Most cursor keys are
- located on the numeric keypad to the right-hand side of the keyboard. You will
- find the up, down, left, and right cursor keys on the 8, 2, 4, and 6 numeric
- keys. The following shows the layout of a standard PC-style keyboard and
- identifies the function keys and cursor keys:

- Operational cursor keys on all keyboards include:
-
- Scroll Lock, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, Ins, Del,
- Enter, bs, tab, up, down, right, left
-
- where:
-
- Scroll - Prevents the image on the screen from scrolling. This prevents the
- Lock cursor movement keys (up, down, left, right, PgUp, PgDn, tab, Home,
- and End) from moving the current image off the screen. The cursor
- movement keys will cause the cursor to wrap around. This is very
- useful for rapid navigation of the screen. This key is located in
- the far right-hand of a standard IBM PC/XT keyboard (above the PgUp

- 5.2.4 The 2 Lines at the Bottom of the Screen
-
- At the bottom of every EasyChart screen, you will see two lines of information.
- The first line provides a list of all function keys that are active. The second
- line provides the name of the current menu, and cursor position information.
- The second line is also used to provide messages, warnings, and prompts for user
- response.
-
- The following is an example of these 2 lines:
-
- ┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- │1 Help 2 Quit 3 Create-M 4 Defaults 5 Merge 6 Read 7 Save 8 Print 9 Clr 10 OV │
- │INPUT/OUTPUT MODE. -- [f2] to Quit 3 9 83 89│
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- The first line shown provides the list of selections that can be made from the
- Input/Output Mode menu. For example, if you press the function key F7 from the
- Input/Output Mode menu, EasyChart will save the chart upon which you are
- working. From virtually all menus, the function key F1 will provide on-line
- help information, and the function key F2 will exit the current menu.
-
- The second line identifies the menu that is active. In this example, the active
- menu is the Input/Output Mode menu. To exit (Quit) this menu, you can press the
- function key F2. On the right side of the second line are numbers identifying
- the current position of the cursor within the screen and the chart workspace.
- In this example, the cursor is positioned at row 3, column 9 of the screen, and
- also in row 83, column 89 of the entire chart workspace.
-
-
- 5.2.5 The Highlighted Row on the Screen
-
- EasyChart will highlight page breaks. The highlighted row on the screen is the
- last row that will be printed on a page of paper.

- 5.4 The Filename Prompt Screen
-
- The next screen you will see is the Filename Prompt Screen. At the bottom of
- the screen, you will see two lines. The first line shows the Input/Output Mode
- menu. This menu is discussed in detail in the section entitled "The
- Input/Output Mode Menu".
-
- Before you can access the Input/Output Mode Menu, you must first respond to the
- "Read" prompt on the second line of the menu. The following is an example of
- what you might see at the bottom of the Filename Prompt Screen:
-
- ┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐

- │ Read c:\ezc\OrgChart.CHR tab*.CHR │
- │ │
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- In this example, the default filename that will be read is C:\EZC\ORGCHART.CHR.
- You have several options for what you can now do:
-
- Press Enter, and EasyChart will load the file (in this example
- C:\EZC\ORGCHART.CHR) into the chart workspace.
-
- Press the tab key and EasyChart will display another file matching the
- directory mask. In this example, the directory mask is *.CHR (shown to the
- right on the second line). Refer to the section entitled "The Defaults
- Menu" for more information on the directory mask.
-
- Type in your own filename. You can use the backspace key to erase any of
- the filename characters on the line. When you finish entering the
- filename, press Enter.
-
- You can also supply your own directory mask. For example you could type
- B:\MYDIR\*.DAT, and then press the tab key to display files matching your
- new directory mask. You can use the backspace key to erase any of the
- filename characters on the line. Note that when you enter your own
- directory mask, you must press the tab key before you press the Enter key.
- When you finish entering the filename, press Enter.
-
- Press the Esc key, and bypass entering a filename. You can later supply a
- filename when you want to Save the chart.

- 6 The Input/Output Mode Menu
-
- 6.1 The Selections Available
-
- The Input/Output Mode menu is the initial menu displayed by EasyChart. From
- this menu, you can read a file into the workspace, merge a file with a chart
- already in the workspace, change default settings, print a chart, or save a
- chart. From this menu, you can also select Create Mode where you can create or
- modify a chart, or you can select (f2) to exit EasyChart and return to DOS.
-
- Upon entering Input/Output Mode, you will see the following menu at the bottom
- of your screen:
-

- │INPUT/OUTPUT MODE -- [f2] to Quit 1 1 1 1│
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- Please note that you can get to Input/Output Mode from any menu by prefixing the
- Input/Output Mode function key command with the Alt key. For example, you can
- execute the Save command from any menu by holding down the Alt key and pressing
- function key F7.
-
-
- 6.2 Description of Each Selection
-
- Description of each function key selection on the Input/Output Mode menu:
-
- F1 Help Displays on-line help describing the function of each selection in
- Input/Output Mode.
-
- F2 Quit Terminates the EasyChart editor session and returns control to DOS
- (you will be prompted to indicate whether this is what you really
- intend to do). NOTE: EasyChart doesn't automatically save your
- workspace to a file on disk. If you exit and do not save your
- file, any changes that you may have made to the file are lost. If
- you distort your file image in the workspace beyond fixing, don't
- save it.

-
- Create Mode also allows you to enter Edit Mode where you can modify
- the workspace.
-
- See the next section for more information about Create Mode.
-
- F4 Defaults Brings up the Defaults Menu. The Defaults Menu allows changes to
- settings such as the Data Path, Directory Mask, Initial Box Height,
- Initial Box Width, Move Scrn-Left/Right increment, Move
- Scrn-PgUp/PgDn increment, Data Drive, and Printer Setup String. By
- using the Defaults Menu you can specify:
-
- Input/Output specifications.

- 7.3 Line Draw Mode
-
- You should always keep in mind that EasyChart draws lines following the movement
- of the cursor. Until you move the cursor, EasyChart cannot know in which
- direction you want to draw a line character. This may take a little time to get
- used to, but it's simple once you get the feel of it.
-
-
- For example, if you have two lines on the screen such as:
-
- ──────── ───┬────
- and you want: │ and you position your cursor
- │
- ──────── ───┴────
-
-
- ───░──── ───░────
- as follows: and move it down like so: ░
- ░
- ──────── ───░────
-
-
- ───┼────
- When you press the Return key you get: │ . This is probably
- │
- ────────
-
-
- not what you were expecting. What you need to do is position the cursor
-
-
- ──░─────
- something like this:
-
- ────────
-
- ──░░────
- and move it to the right, then down, then left, like this ░ .
- ░
- ───░░───
-
-
- The first and last cursor moves tell EasyChart to draw a horizontal line.

-
-
-
- 8.2 Highlighting an Area Using Function Keys F3-F8
-
- The function keys, F3 Format, F4 Ins/Del, F5 Stretch, F6 Shift, F7 Erase, and F8
- Hold all operate using a highlighted rectangular area of the workspace. When
- using these commands you must highlight an area of the workspace. The
- highlighted area will have one corner anchored at the cursor position when you
- enter the command, so you must know where your cursor is in relation to what you
- want to do. This will become obvious when you use one of the commands.
-
- Also, note that the information line, the last line on the screen, will provide
- useful information about the actions that will be taken by the command being
- used.
-
- If you enter one of these commands by mistake, the F3 Abandon or the escape
- (Esc) key will abandon the command without taking any action. The workspace
- will be unchanged.
-
- After you have highlighted an area, if you want the action to take place the F2
- Quit or Enter key will process the command.

- F3 Format Allows the formatting of text into a square or rectangular shape.
- Upon selecting F3 Format, you will see the following menu:
-
- ┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- │ 1 Help 2 Quit 3 Abandon 4 Left 5 Up 6 Center │
- │ FORMAT TEXT - LEFT - Use Cursor keys │
- └─────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- Using the cursor keys (up, down, left, right), you can highlight an
- area into which you want to format existing text. No text is
- formatted until you press the F2 Quit or Enter keys. If you press
- F3 Abandon or Esc, no reformatting of text occurs.
-
- You can format text UP, LEFT, or CENTER. This refers to the type
- of text justification done within the highlighted area. You can
- indicate how you want the text formatted in one of two ways:
-
- 1. By pressing the F4 Left, F5 Up, or F6 Center keys instead of
- pressing F2 Quit or Enter.
- 2. By the direction of the last cursor key you press when
- highlighting the text you want to format.
-
- As the names indicate, the F4 Left, F5 Up, and F6 Center selections
- format text left, up, or center respectively.
-
- EasyChart will also select an UP or LEFT justification based on the
- last cursor movement you make. For example, if the last cursor
- movement you made while highlighting the area was to press the left
- cursor key, and then you pressed the F2 Quit or Enter keys,
- EasyChart will format text left. EasyChart indicates the type of
- justification to you in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen
- in the information row.

-
- Using the cursor keys (up, down, left, right), you can select the
- row or column where you want rows or columns inserted or deleted.
- The rows or columns are not inserted or deleted until you press any
- of the function keys F4 through F7, or the F2 Quit or Enter key.
- If you press F3 Abandon or Esc, no inserting or deleting occurs.
- You can indicate the type of action taken in one of two ways:
-
- 1. By selecting F4 Ins Row, F5 Ins Col, F6 Del Row, or F7 Del
- Col instead of pressing F2 Quit or Enter.
- 2. By the direction of the last cursor key you press when
- highlighting the area where you want to insert or delete rows
- or columns.
-
- Select F4 to insert rows. Select F5 to insert columns. Select F6
- to delete rows. Select F7 to delete columns.
-
- You can also use the cursor keys to indicate whether to insert or
- delete rows or columns by the direction the cursor has moved from
- its starting position on the screen:
-
- right Columns are inserted.
- left Columns are deleted.
- up Rows are deleted.
- down Rows are inserted.
-
- It is not necessary to remember this, since the action that
- EasyChart will perform is displayed in the last row of the screen.

- F5 Stretch Extends and justifies a figure up, down, left or right. Upon
- selecting F5 Stretch, you see the following menu:

- │ 1 Help 2 Quit 3 Abandon 4 Down 5 Right 6 Up 7 Left │
- │ STRETCH DOWN - Use Cursor keys │
- └─────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- As was the case for the Format command, you use the cursor keys to
- highlight an area. The Stretch command operates in a fashion
- similar to the Format and Ins/Del commands. You can stretch
- figures in one of two ways:
-
- 1. By selecting F4 Down, F5 Right, F6 Up, or F7 Left instead of
- pressing F2 Quit or Enter.
- 2. By the direction of the last cursor key you press when
- highlighting the figure you want to stretch.
-
- Stretch only affects the highlighted workspace.
-
- Stretch only moves the special characters used in EasyChart
- figures. Text doesn't move. Stretch will not perform its action
- if text must be overwritten.
-
- Since no special characters are used to create decision boxes (only
- the '/' and '\' are used), they are viewed as text and cannot be
- stretched.
-
- The strategy Stretch uses is to move all figure characters within
- the highlighted area flush to the forward edge of the highlighted
- area, and then extend the figure characters to the rear edge.

- 9.2 Description of Each Selection
-
- File Characteristic Defaults:
-
- Data Path The file drive and directory for files to be read into the
- EasyChart workspace. When loading a file into EasyChart, you
- have the option of either entering a file name by keying the
- filename directly, or by pressing the tab key and having
- EasyChart display the next filename in the data path (drive and
- directory). If you press the tab key while the cursor is
- positioned at the Data Path field, EasyChart will fill the entry
- with the current default drive and path.
-
- Dir Mask A directory mask, used along with Data Path, to further specify
- what files EasyChart should display. When issuing the
- Input/Output Mode Menu's Read command, you can indicate you want
- another filename by pressing the tab key. For example, if the
- directory mask is specified as *.CHR, and you press the tab key
- to display the next filename, only those filenames in the current
- data path having a filename extension of .CHR are displayed. If
- you are not familiar with the use of global filename characters
- such as * and ?, you should refer to IBM Disk Operating System
- Manual for more information.
-
- Chart Workspace Characteristic Defaults:
-
- Box Width The initial width in characters for figures drawn using
- EasyChart.
-
- Box Height The initial height in characters for figures drawn using
- EasyChart.
-
- Move Scrn-L/R The Move Scrn-Left/Right increment. When the user presses the
- Ctrl-left or Ctrl-right keys, the screen will move by the number
- of characters specified.
-
- Move Scrn-U/D The Move Scrn-PgUp/PgDn increment. When the user presses either
- Ctrl-PgUp, or Ctrl-PgDn, the screen moves up or down the number
- of lines specified.

-
-
- Printing Characteristic Defaults:
-
- We designed EasyChart to work on any printer capable of printing characters
- contained in the IBM Extended Character Set. As long as your printer can do
- this, you can print your charts from EasyChart.
-
- Since most printers offer compatibility with the IBM Graphics and IBM
- Proprinters (that is, they accept the same escape codes as those printers), we
- have made it easier for those users to use EasyChart by making available
- settings for compressed and overstrike printing modes.
-
- Compressed If set to "Y", EasyChart will print 17 characters per inch on IBM
- Graphics and Proprinter compatible printers. If set to "N",
- EasyChart will print 10 characters per inch. If you do not have
- a printer that is escape code compatible with the IBM Graphics
- and Proprinters, you should set Compressed to "N". Users with
- printers that do not accept IBM Graphics and Proprinter escape
- codes should refer to the section entitled "Printing Charts On
- Other Printers".
-
- When you view the Compressed entry, you will notice some codes to
- the right prefixed with a \ symbol, for example, \018. This is
- an escape code to invoke Compressed printing on an IBM Graphics
- compatible printer. You can't change these codes from the
- Defaults menu. The escape codes are hard-coded in the defaults
- file associated with the document you are creating.
-
- Overstrike If set to "Y", each line of a chart will be printed twice on IBM
- Graphics and Proprinter compatible printers. If set to "N", the
- chart will be printed without printing over each line. If you do
- not have a printer that is escape code compatible with the IBM
- Graphics and Proprinters, you should set Compressed to "N".
- Users with printers that do not accept IBM Graphics and
- Proprinter escape codes should refer to the section entitled
- "Printing Charts On Other Printers".
-
- When you view the Overstrike entry, you will notice some codes to
- the right prefixed with a \ symbol, for example, \027\072. This
- is an escape code to invoke Overstrike printing on an IBM
- Graphics compatible printer. You can't change these codes from
- the Defaults menu. The escape codes are hard-coded in the
- defaults file associated with the document you are creating.

- EasyChart Users Manual Page: 46
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
-
-
- Lines / Inch If set to 6, EasyChart will print 6 lines per vertical inch on
- IBM Graphics and compatible printers. The other value allowed
- for Lines / Inch is 8.
-
- When you view the Lines / Inch entry, you will notice some codes
- to the right prefixed with a \ symbol, for example, \27\50. This
- is an escape code to invoke printing at 6 lines per inch on an
- IBM Graphics compatible printer. You can't change these codes
- from the Defaults menu. The escape codes are hard-coded in the
- defaults file associated with the document you are creating.
-
- Setup String The Setup String contains special printer codes (in decimal) that
- EasyChart sends to the printer before printing any documents.
- The setup string normally does not contain any printable
- characters. Rather, it contains special printer control codes
- that turn on or turn off special printing capabilities of the
- printer such as near-letter-quality, emphasized, bold, data
- processing quality, etc.
-
- Printer codes have the form \nnn, a backslash followed by a
- decimal number. As an example, for emphasized printing on an
- Okidata ML 92/93 with Plug and Play the character codes sent to
- the printer are Esc E. The Esc is a decimal code 27, and the E
- is a decimal code 45. To set the printer to emphasized printing,
- the user could specify the setup string as: \27\45. It is not
- necessary to enter printable code in decimal form. The string
- \27E is equivalent.
-
- You have the option of specifying the setup string either by
- making entries in the Default menu's Compressed, Overstrike, and
- Lines / Inch fields, or by typing your escape code sequence
- directly into the Setup String field. Make changes to the
- Compressed, Overstrike, and Lines / Inch fields and see how this
- works!
-
- Line Numbers If set to "Y", line numbers for each chart line are printed. If
- set to "N", line numbers are not printed.
-
- Left Margin The number of spaces printed on each line before the first column
- of a chart appears. This only affects where on the paper the
- first column of the chart prints. It does not affect which
- columns of the chart print.

-
-
-
- Lines / Page The number of lines printed on a page. The default specification
- is 66 which corresponds to 6 lines per inch on standard 11 inch
- paper. Printing charts at 8 lines per inch or 88 lines per page
- prints a more proportioned chart.
-
- Setting Lines / Page doesn't set your printer in any way. It
- only tells EasyChart how many lines your printer can fit on a
- page. EasyChart uses this information in calculating page
- lengths. If you need to indicate lines per page to your printer,
- you must do this either through your printer's control panel, or
- by sending escape codes to the printer through the Setup String.
-
- ASCII Ext If set to "Y", EasyChart will print your chart as seen on the
- screen. EasyChart will use its standard symbols for printing.
- If set to "N", EasyChart assumes your printer cannot handle the
- special symbols it uses, and prints using characters that should
- print on all printers. For example, if you specify "N",
- EasyChart will print using a dash symbol (-) instead of (─), and
- a colon symbol (:) instead of (│). This is beneficial when your
- printer doesn't support printing symbols contained in the IBM
- extended character set.
-
- Monitor Characteristic Defaults:
-
- Color Monitor If set to "Y", charts are displayed on the screen in color. The
- default is "N", which displays charts in normal and intense black
- and white.
-
- Miscellaneous Defaults:
-
- Bell If set to "Y", a bell will sound when either a warning or an
- error occurs. If set to "N", a bell will only sound when an
- error occurs.

- 10 Advanced Topics
-
- 10.1 Intelligent Page Ejecting (.P in-line command)
-
- When working with charts, it is not unusual for charts to run more than 1 page
- in length. When this happens, it is possible that an EasyChart figure such as a
- decision, process, or file box may be partially on two different pages. You may
- find this undesirable and want to make sure figures don't span pages. EasyChart
- provides a solution to this problem in the form of the .P intelligent page eject
- command.
-
- The .P command provides a means of forcing a page eject. At the same time, all
- vertical lines are continued to the bottom of the current page, across the page
- perforation, and to the top of the next page.
-
- Syntax: .P
-
- You must enter the .P command in columns 1 and 2 of a chart. The .P command
- must be in upper case.
-
- You may also force a page eject by placing a formfeed character in column 1 of a
- line. EasyChart will highlight the page eject line, but will not extend the
- vertical lines when printing. To place a formfeed character (Ctrl-L) in column
- 1 of a line, first go the location you desire, then press Ctrl-L.

-
- 10.2 Entering Symbols Not Shown on the Keyboard
-
- Users often find a need to enter certain symbols into their charts that are not
- on the keyboards they are using. These special symbols may be part of the IBM
- Extended Character Set but are not shown on keyboards. For example, the
- following symbols are in the IBM Extended Character Set, but not on a standard
- keyboard:
-
- Symbol Decimal Code
-
- ¿ 168
- ½ 171
- Σ 228
- σ 229
-
- Lists of the symbols available in the IBM Extended Character Set can be found in
- many manuals. Many of the IBM manuals have the ASCII Character Codes for all
- symbols available in appendices. Some memory-resident software packages offer
- ASCII code tables that can be called up with 1 or 2 keystrokes.
-
- EasyChart allows users to enter any ASCII symbol into a chart. The user can
- enter codes not shown on a keyboard by depressing the Alt key and entering a
- 3-digit code using the keyboard's numeric keypad (the Alt key is located under
- the left-shift key on standard IBM keyboards). For example, to enter the symbol
- Σ, the user can hold down the Alt key and press the keypad numbers 2,2, and 8.
